Case study – Chloe

All of the case studies you will read here are the experiences of real Anam Cara clients. They have asked for their real names not to be used to protect their privacy but all of them wanted others to know that problems can be overcome, whatever they are.

SAFE AND SOUND

My first experience of Anam Cara was when I went to a meditation workshop day. My initial impressions were of just how clean and pristine the place was, and how professionally run the centre was. Sonia was very welcoming and I immediately felt at ease and in safe hands. The way it was decorated in such calming colours helped the feeling of calmness and helped all the participants to mingle as they pleased. No-one was forced to do anything, and if they preferred to be on their own or quiet, everyone respected that.

The day was excellently organised and precisely run. There was time for us to have our own time and our own say but also for Sonia to lead and explain the session effectively so we were able to get as much out of it as possible. There was a big emphasis on respect for each other and there was never any pressure on anyone to say or do anything. However, the warm and safe environment that had been created meant that people did feel able to express themselves.

In fact it was amazing how members of the group befriended each other over the day. Everyone helped each other through what they were going through.

Sonia provided good support and encouragement throughout the session to each and every person, and you learnt from other people’s experiences too. It was a very emotional day but that was because everyone was so open and willing to give. It was also quite a spiritual experience.

What helped with the meditation and added a further spiritual element was the presence of the sound therapist who used Tibetan singing bowls to help us meditate more easily. I had never done a meditation with live sound before but it really puts you in the right frame of mind. The sound therapist also did some exercises with us to open up the chakras of the body, followed by some chanting and singing. This was actually a really great release – very liberating. It immediately made the whole group feel more comfortable together.

It was a very positive day where no stone was left unturned. Sonia was both passionate and professional. I felt very tired afterwards, simply because it was so intense and emotional. I remained pretty reflective for a few days afterwards. People were there to tell their own story and of course we all have problems to share, and many things we can learn from each other. With Sonia’s input, everything was turned to the positive.
