“Any disease is a friend and messenger - and potentially a precious gift.”

Gill Edwards, Conscious Medicine

Conscious medicine believes that the body is intelligent, conscious and infinitely helpful, with illness or disease arising from resistances within our energy system causing us to become out of balance. Therefore, within our energy system, it believes that the higher purpose of any symptom is to help us evolve consciously, to release old blockages, past trauma, current dilemmas and negative beliefs. All to allow us to unfold and grow to our fuller potential and become our future expanded selves.

Martin Brofman PhD, Founder of the Body Mirror System of Healing, writes: “Your body is a mirror of your life. The parts of your body that do not work well reflect the parts of your life that do not work well.

“When there is tension in a particular part of your body, it reflects tension in a particular part of your consciousness about a particular part of your life.

“When the tension about that part of your life can be released from your consciousness, it can then be released from that part of your body. Your body and your consciousness, and that part of your life, are then able to return to their natural state of harmony. You return to the way of being that works best for you.

“The Body Mirror System is a set of tools, and a technology, which explores the relationships between your body, your consciousness, and your life, for the purpose of restoring harmony (healing) when things have gone out of balance, and for the purpose of understanding yourself and the nature of your Being.

“The deepest part of who you are is consciousness. Consciousness is energy. You are a Being of energy, as we all are.”

Martin Brofman developed, this system of healing, which is a synthesis of Western psychology and Eastern philosophies based on the chakras (energy centres found in the Hindu traditions).

Because each of these chakras can be associated with certain parts of the consciousness as well as certain parts of the body, they allow us to read the body as a map of the consciousness within.

Thus, tensions in the body are seen to reflect tensions in the consciousness, and the chakras can be used as a vehicle to understand the body-mind interface and its implications for healing.

What will happen in a treatment?

The client will remain clothed and seated and the practitioner will use a light, gentle touch whilst focusing on the subtle vibrational energy fields (the chakras being the inner energy centres and the aura being the outer energy field). An experience similar to that of meditation is created with the client often feeling deeply relaxed physically, emotionally and psychologically. While the practitioner works through the magnetic fields of the colour spectrum, the client will often have their own inner experience of seeing the actual colours for themselves or have visions, sensations or other spontaneous information come to them.

After a treatment a client will often feel much calmer, accepting and gently appreciative of themselves, thus creating the right inner conditions for the healing process to continue after the treatment itself. It is not unusual for the held tensions and emotions they had brought to the treatment to have left completely or to have been greatly reduced.

This is not a treatment suitable for those receiving psychiatric support.

Anam Cara’s practitioner is Sonia Manning. She is a Master Practitioner within the Brofman System of Healing having studied directly with Martin Brofman for over 5 years. In this period she has travelled abroad several times to advance her training with Martin and continues to be a committed student of his. Under his guidance and direction her spiritual development continues to flourish for the benefit of those clients who ask for her skills.

Get to know Sonia:

Sonia qualified as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist at Keele University, before spending a further five years studying Psychosynthesis. She has studied continuously ever since. She has worked in a GP practice, for police and prison services, has supported youth and community projects, and also worked with both local and blue-chip companies, business leaders and government departments.

She has also developed many programmes of psychological support to help senior managers, directors and CEOs deal successfully with workplace issues and conflicts.

As a counsellor, psychospiritual psychotherapist and executive business coach she has taken countless clients – both individuals and couples – who have been suffering, stuck, confused or in crisis and helped them to reconnect with their true selves and rediscover what it is to be calm, confident and at peace.

Sonia says, "Although clients who come to me are often struggling profoundly, they have sensed an opportunity to rediscover themselves. For some, there is a clear need to take action, while for others they simply know deep down that something is not right but are unsure what steps to take.

"While it may be a difficult journey, the rewards are extraordinary. Individuals gain insights and a deeper wisdom that opens them up to a whole new reality where they are finally able to use new skills to realise their potential and purpose in all aspects of their lives."

She particularly relates to the following quotes...

“A new medicine is arising – one that embraces spirituality and consciousness as emphatically as conventional medicine has dismissed them.”

Larry Dossey

“Research is screaming at us with the urgent message that consciousness can harness the powerful healing forces of a quantum universe, forces far more potent than pills in a bottle.”
