Holistic Centre for Body, Mind & Spirit

Dru Yoga is a graceful form of yoga based on flowing movements, focused breathing and inner visualisation. It encourages a positive, healthier and more peaceful existence.

With its foundations set in Hatha Yoga, dru yoga can be practised by everyone creating a healthier, happier, more empowered way of living. For all age groups, from all walks of life and all fitness levels the benefits of dru yoga are many. Dru yoga invites an improvement in strength and flexibility, a heightened feeling of positivity, a deeper sense of relaxation and rejuvenation for the whole of your being - body, mind and spirit.

Dru yoga enables the individual to be more present in their body and to become more self aware. It encourages a contemplation of the mind and body link, as well as acknowledging that past emotional traumas can also be held as trapped energies in the body which can then cause physical pain.

On a physical level we also recognise that many common ailments and discomforts can be traced to poor posture. If the spine is not properly aligned or if there is a tightness or stiffness in the back, the result is often an imbalance in the body. When this imbalance becomes chronic many kinds of disorders arise in the organs, glands and nervous system.

At Anam Cara we will draw from ancient yogic traditions including asanas (classic yoga postures) pranayama (the science of breath) mudras (hand gestures), positive affirmations, empowering visualisations and powerful sequences which will be performed in a flowing and dynamic style.

The dru yoga experience at Anam Cara

  • Joints are kept relaxed and soft during movement. This creates flexibility and a free flow of subtle energy
  • Energy block release sequences are easy-to-practise, flowing movements that help to release physical, emotional and psychological tensions
  • In dru yoga all movements originate from the spine because a flexible, healthy spine supports your entire yoga practice
  • The spinal wave and spinal twist are core features of dru yoga, enhancing spinal health and vitality
  • A major focus is a deep understanding of core stability
  • Dru yoga works to balance the chakras (the energy centres of the body) and accesses the powerful energy of the heart
  • Within the flow of movement, dru yoga creates powerful moments of stillness which we call ‘Dru Points’

Within a small group and set in beautiful surroundings, Anam Cara will give you sufficient time and support for your gained insights and shifts to have a deep and genuine impact.

Optional one-to-one tuition is also available.

Anam Cara’s practitioner says, “Twenty-one years ago I started as a fitness/aerobics instructor. I then decided to go back to college and train in Sports Therapy. I went on to train in Sports Massage, Aromatherapy and other holistic therapies. I also trained in Beauty as I wanted to help people not just on a physical level but on an emotional level too, as I feel most illness and disease comes from life’s stresses and emotional challenges. Later I found dru yoga which works on all levels of experience (physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual). Five years ago I went on to train as a teacher and have continued my training to eventually become a dru yoga practitioner specialising in back care and pregnancy-related health and wellbeing.”
